Explore the sculptures by Margaret Wharton and Betsy Odom in the “Kindred Spirits” exhibition and create a still-life study of your favorite sculpture. The artists in this exhibition meticulously craft and transform everyday objects into unusual and humorous sculptures featuring chairs, sporting equipment and shoes.

Join us for a conversation with acclaimed music photographer Bobby Talamine, interviewed by Michigan City's own Ric Federighi of WIMS Radio. With more than 40 years of concert photography experience, Talamine will discuss his career and his newly published book, Femmes at Full Volume, celebrating women and female-presenting artists who have shaped the music industry.

Femmes at Full Volume showcases over 40 years of Bobby Talamine's Chicago concert photography. The book captures moments in time such as Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance during the band’s first US tour in 1990, Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxsie and the Banshees at the first Lollapalooza in 1991, Lady Gaga during the development of The Monster Ball Tour in 2010, Kim Gordon at Pitchfork in 2021, and Amy Taylor of Amyl and the Sniffers at the Logan Square Auditorium in 2022. The book also features iconic female and female-presenting artists such as Sade, Sinéad O’Connor, Stevie Nicks, Patti Smith, Joan Jett, Björk, PJ Harvey, Erykah Badu, Diamanda Galás, who wrote the foreword, and many more.

LCA and Unpacked Mobile Gallery present the return of the Roving Art Exhibit, an exhibition on a moving truck, from October 1-13, 2026.

The mobile exhibit will travel to 13 locations across 14 days, providing over 22 docent-led tours and workshops directly within the community. This groundbreaking initiative marks the first of its kind in La Porte County, bringing the enriching experience of art directly to communities. Stops include Paladin, Inc., Boys and Girls Clubs, Barker Middle School and the Westville Pumpkin Festival.

Home Grown brings together artists who work with materials and processes connected to the natural world. Their practices include mycology, the study and use of fungi; natural dyes, colors made from plants, flowers and other natural materials; earth pigments, natural watercolor paints made from rock and soil; handmade paper, growing plants used to make paper and other nature-based art forms.

Exhibiting artists include Aimée Beaubien, Kris Casey, Corey Hagelberg, Rachel Meyers Hefferan, Noelani Jones, Andrea Peterson, CV Peterson, SK Reed and Bonnie Zimmer.

This program is made possible by grants from the Michigan City Community Enrichment Corporation (MCCEC) and philanthropists, Lynn and Allen Turner, enabling LCA to expand its free community art outreach and engagement programs. Unpacked’s curatorial mission encompasses the value of art as an experience, and fosters the relationship between institutions, society and artists.

Join us for LCA's free First Friday! Light refreshments will be served, a cash bar will be available and the talk begins at 6 p.m. (Central).

This event celebrates the life, work and enduring legacy of renowned American sculptor Richard Hunt (1935–2023). Presented in collaboration with Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph, Michigan, the evening will feature Tami Fauver, Director of Krasl Art Center, and sculptor Eric Stephenson in a lively conversation about their experiences working with Hunt and the profound impact he continues to have on the artistic landscape of Michigan.

Guests will learn about Hunt’s extraordinary legacy gift to Southwest Michigan through the Richard Hunt Studio Center in Benton Harbor, an initiative that preserves his creative legacy while providing opportunities for artists and the community. The program will also offer an intimate look at Hybrid Figure (1978), a work from LCA’s permanent collection, providing insight into Hunt’s distinctive artistic process and approach to sculpture.

Whether you are familiar with Hunt’s work or discovering it for the first time, this First Friday promises an illuminating evening of art, stories, and conversation about an artist whose influence continues to shape the creative community of our region.

Join us for a FREE day of art-making at LCA! This free, drop-in event welcomes all ages to cast your own unique wax ping-pong paddle with Kindred Spirits artist Betsy Odom. Plus, kids can enjoy a fun, family-friendly scavenger hunt through LCA’s three galleries, all in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Family Days are particularly engaging for school-age children and their parents or caregivers. Free snacks will be provided, and no advance registration is required. Free Family Day offers children and adults opportunities to connect while exploring LCA’s summer exhibition, "Kindred Spirits: Margaret Wharton and Betsy Odom."
