SHAKE OFF THE WINTER SEASON WITH ART WORKSHOPS AT THE LUBEZNIK CENTER

As the faintest hints of warmer weather begin to emerge in Northwest Indiana, get the creative juices flowing again with several spring offerings at the Lubeznik Center for the Arts:

Saturday, March 24, 1:00 to 5:00 pm   Fee      $60

Exhibiting Professionalism – A one-day workshop designed for the artist with a limited exhibition history or with local experience, who wants to start exhibiting their art to a broader audience. Even those who have been working artists for some time, and/or have a degree, will benefit.  Discover which galleries want to do business and why. The workshop, taught by artist Janet Bloch will cover: resume, slide quality, slide labeling, artist statement, approach, professionalism and pricing. Learn how and where to find the right opportunities to market your work. Janet Bloch earned a Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  She is the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships and has extensive experience giving professional workshops for artists.

At Home By Design - Freshen up one room or start from scratch with a whole house redesign!  This overview of Interior Design principles and creative ideas will launch your projects. Color, scale, furniture layouts, accessorizing, lighting, design resources and architectural changes that reflect your personal style for beauty, comfort, and functional living will be discussed.  Susan Block, who has a 25 year background in residential interior design, will teach the workshop.

Thursdays (April 5 – May 31), 7:00 to 8:00 pm   Fee      $ 80

Latin Dancing - Experience Latino culture in a whole new way! As part of the programming for “Latino Impressions: Portraits of a Culture” (March 31 – June 3), the Lubeznik Center is partnering with Alembic Artistic Studio to offer this Latin dance class. Learn the steps for the Mamba, Cha Cha, Latin Ballroom, Maringa, and Disco. Turns, traveling steps, proper framework, along with historical context, will be part of the curriculum taught by Larry Payne, a professional dancer and choreographer. Both fun and educational, dancing is also an excellent form of exercise!

Wednesdays (April 18 & 25 & May 2), 7:00 to 8:30 pm   Fee      $35

Calling All Poets - This 3-session class is an opportunity to share your work with others and benefit from gentle guidance in poetry writing skills. Learn how prepare for writing contests and how to get published. Instructor Susan Block, a performance poet, has work which has appeared in numerous literary journals, the Chicago Tribune and an anthology in Indiana libraries. Students provide a notebook, pen and examples of your poetry. Susan has been a professional writer in the fields of marketing and public relations for 30 years, but her personal passion is poetry.
