The Lubeznik Center for the Arts announces a partnership with Target, the Minneapolis based corporation which has provided funding for the “Richard Hunt Past & Present” sculpture exhibition and educational programs at the Lubeznik Center in Michigan City, Indiana. Proceeds generated from the Opening Benefit that was held on September 15 will support community education and outreach programs at the Lubeznik Center, as well as launching the United Negro College Fund’s scholarship program for students from Northwest Indiana.

“Richard Hunt: Past & Present” features work from Hunt’s illustrious career, highlighting examples of the sculptor’s work from the 1970’s to present. Exhibit pieces include a range of major commissions, tiny maquettes, mid-size studio pieces, photographic murals, drawings and prints. Curated by Suzanne Cohan-Lange, a sculptor and the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Lubeznik Center for the Arts, “Past & Present” will be on display in the Hyndman Gallery at the Lubeznik Center for the Arts through December 9.

The Lubeznik Center’s Executive Director Carolyn Saxton said, “We are thrilled to receive this grant from Target which has enabled us to bring such an exhibit from this renowned artist to this region. The support from Target indicates the level at which the Lubeznik Center has reached in providing exemplary art education programs and world-class exhibitions for the community”.

Target provides grants in an ongoing effort to strengthen families and communities throughout the country. Since opening its doors, Target has given 5% of its income to organizations that support education, the arts and safe families and communities. Today that translates to $3 million every week.

“At Target, we are making a real difference every day through our grant-making program,” said Laysha Ward, vice president, community relations, Target. “We’re proud to partner with the Lubeznik Center for the Arts as part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities where our guests and team members live and work.”

Additionally, Target also gives through signature programs that are designed to inspire learning in children and families. Programs include:
• Take Charge of Education®, a school fundraising program
• Target Field Trip Grants, a program that helps educators bring learning to life for students through the distribution of grants
• Ready.Sit.Read!SM, a program dedicated to fostering a lifelong love of reading in children
• Target House®, which serves as a home away from home for families of children receiving life-saving treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® in Memphis
• Target Volunteers, a program where Target team members and retirees annually donate more than 315,000 hours of time to more than 7,000 community-based projects
