“Richard
Hunt: Past & Present”, on display in the Lubeznik Center
for the Arts’ Hyndman Gallery from September 15 through
December 9, features work from Hunt’s illustrious career,
highlighting examples of the sculptor’s work from the
1970’s to present. Exhibit pieces will include a range of
major commissions, tiny maquettes, mid-size studio pieces,
photographic murals, drawings and prints.
Richard Hunt, born and educated in Chicago, “has been a
major figure in American Art for forty years”. He has
completed more public sculptures than any other artist in
the country and is the recipient of numerous awards and
honorary degrees. Hunt’s graceful works are “inspired by
[his] life experiences and his African-American heritage,
reflecting the rhythm of poetry, the intensity of the
spiritual and the enlightenment of the prophet”.
“Past & Present” is curated by Suzanne Cohan-Lange, a
sculptor and the Vice President of the Board of Directors
for the Lubeznik Center for the Arts. Cohan-Lange recently
retired as the chair of the Interdisciplinary Arts
Department at Columbia College Chicago, a program she
co-founded thirty years ago.
Target is the presenting sponsor, with other generous
