for you or members of your family. The Lubeznik
Center for the Arts announces the 2007 Fall Class
and Workshop schedule which has something for
every age group. There are offerings for kids to
cultivate creativity including Sprout with
Imagination, Creative Dramatics, SCAMPS Guitar
lessons and Storytelling. Offerings for teens
include two Teen Drawing classes - one in Michigan
City, and one LaPorte, Improvisation, Acting and
Conversational French. Adult classes include two
levels of Improvisational Acting, Portraits, two
levels of Watercolor, Oil Painting in Michigan
City & LaPorte, Poetry, Music Appreciation, Yoga
and Conversational French & Italian.

your busy schedule, attend “Richard Hunt: A
Sculptor for Our Time” presented by Joan
Chesterton on September 27 at 7pm; or sign up for
a special workshop with best-selling author Robert
Moss for “How Dreams Can Wake You Up” on November
8 at 7pm. Also, on September 29 at 2pm, the Center
will host a sculpture–making workshop for families
in conjunction with the “Richard Hunt: Past &
Present” exhibition. Other special events and

Children’s Classes
Creative Dramatics ( 6 weeks)
Is your child seeking the stage and a spotlight?
This class provides the fundamentals for children
ages 7-9 who show an interest in dramatic
expression. The class focuses on exercises to
engage the imagination while establishing basic
tools for acting. Location: large NIPSCO Art
Education Studio.

SCAMPS Guitar (8 weeks)
If you dream of being a “Rock Star” this is your
gig! SCAMPS is an established music education
program in the UK and is a great place to start
learning is on the acoustic guitar. Structured
learning includes lessons and individual attention
in small learning groups. This class, geared
towards ages 7-11, will start at the beginning,
teaching guitar basics and music structure.
Classes limited to 6. Students provide their own
guitar. Cost includes SCAMPS lesson book.

This beginning level class will provide an
assortment of fun art projects for children 4 to 5

Adult Classes
Improv Level I (6 weeks)
Have a good time and laugh while exercising the
mind and stretching your creativity in a positive,
safe, and encouraging environment. During this
workshop, adult students will be introduced to the
basic fundamentals of improvisation through a
series of simple yet challenging exercises that
will gradually lead to performance games where
techniques can be applied in front of classmates.
Although this class is geared towards the novice,
those with experience will be equally challenged
in this easy-going, mentally stimulating, and very
enjoyable class. Students should dress comfortably

Students focus on proper improvisational scene
building techniques. Expect exposure to more fun
and brain-twisting exercises. Gain a clear
understanding of the basics of improv scenic
structure, learn interesting ways to develop new
characters, and have a place to sharpen techniques
introduced in our “Improv Your Mind” class.
Students will be given the opportunity to perform
in scenes as well as observe others while being
made extremely comfortable learning these golden
improv traits in your teacher’s positive, safe and

Portraits (8 weeks)
Learn to create life-like two-dimensional
portraits by accurately portraying the skull
structure, proportions of the head and structure
of facial features. Painter, Neil Kienitz, an

The World of Water Color (beginning) (12 weeks)
The magical medium of watercolor will be explored
with Neil Kienitz, an experienced instructor and
professional artist. Get an overview of materials

The World of Watercolor (experienced) (8 weeks)
The brush in a skilled hand, guides the watercolor
pigment to the porous paper, resulting in
translucent layers of color. Watercolor devotees
will have something new to learn about the

for students who have taken Mr. Kienitz’s
watercolor class before. This session joins 12
week class in progress. Students provide their

Calling All Poets (6 weeks)
This 3-session class is an opportunity to share
your work with others and benefit from gentle
guidance in poetry writing skills. Learn how to
prepare for writing contests and how to get
published. A performance poet, Susan Block’s work
has appeared in numerous literary journals, the
Chicago Tribune and an anthology in Indiana
libraries. Students provide a notebook, pen and
examples of your poetry. Location: large NIPSCO

Ongoing Hatha Yoga (6 weeks)
Round out your week with hatha yoga. Students with
prior yoga experience will practice methods to
promote a calm state of mind and body. Reduce
tension and improve strength, flexibility and
respiration with yoga practices focused on
alignment and injury prevention. Focus on yoga
positions and breath awareness with a basic
introduction to yoga theory. Students provide
mats, foam blocks and a firm blanket. Wear
comfortable clothing that allows full range of

the process of turning scrap into sculpture in the
NIPSCO Art Education Studios.

"How Dreams Can Wake You Up" A workshop with
bestselling author and dream expert Robert Moss
It’s only through dreams, coincidence, and the
workings of the imagination that we can journey to
the world beyond the obvious one, a world where we
awaken to who we are and who we are meant to
become. Moss, the author of “The Three ‘Only’
Things: Tapping the Power of Dreams, Coincidence,
and Imagination” (available for purchase a the LCA),
offers practical suggestions, tested in Moss’
workshops and consultations, for harnessing the
life-altering power of the subconscious mind. Moss
explains the nine powers of dreaming; the nine
rules of coincidence; and the seven uses of

Lecture
Richard Hunt: A Sculptor for our Time, presented
by Joan Chesterton, will outline many aspects of
Richard Hunt’s life and work. Topics covered will
include: his early life, ongoing career, formal
qualities of his works, and his lasting legacy and
contribution to the contemporary art and
sculptural worlds. Chesterton, a professor emerita
at PNC, is a gifted presenter who offers something
for those with or without art expertise. She has
given many presentations at the Lubeznik Center
and has been well received by art buffs and casual
visitors alike. This fascinating and insightful
presentation will be for one night only in the
Lubeznik Center’s Hyndman Gallery. Co-Sponsored
