“Green
Architecture” will be on exhibit in the Lubeznik Center’s
Hyndman Gallery between February 23 and April 20, with an
opening reception on February 23 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. The
exhibit will provide a look at the ways local architects
have integrated environmentally friendly concepts into
their designs and will feature projects that have been
built or are being built within a 200-mile radius of
Michigan City, Indiana. ‘Green’ applied to ‘Architecture’
is design of spaces and places in full consideration of
the natural environment; it seeks to maximize efficiency
and minimize impact while meeting the needs of its
occupants. Green architecture is not a particular style of
architecture but a thoughtful and holistic approach to
design in which priorities and strategies must be
developed for specific situations and locations.
Several of the residential projects featured in this
exhibit demonstrate how alternative energy sources can be
used in the home and others demonstrate strategies in
water conservation and smart land use. The variety of
works are intended to inform and inspire
visitors to become

environmentally conscious about their homes and
will offer an opportunity to see green design
projects being built locally.
The exhibit will present an overview of what green
architecture means and will provide reasons for
change in design and building practices. Examples
of environmentally responsible building projects
and specific innovations in design, building and
operations will be included in the exhibition.
Co-Curators, Thomas and Rachel Forman, explain
that the exhibit is a “terrific opportunity to
share the beauty and benefits of sustainable
building and design.”
Sponsors for “Green Architecture” include Edward
Noonan (Developer, Architect/Tryon Farms) and WNIT
Public Television.
